Bringing together two distinct yet resonant practices, the exhibition explores transformation, memory, and the limits of understanding. Through ceramic sculpture and holography (a process of capturing and reconstructing light to produce 3D images in space), Los Angeles–based Amia Yokoyama constructs mythic worlds where material histories and contemporary identities collide as a form of metamorphosis. Drawing on the traditions of Nihonga painting, Kyoto-based Rina Matsudaira creates layered figurative works that are centered on the theme of “imagining the other.” Through compositions in which multiple timelines and perspectives intersect, she turns her gaze toward the voiceless others hidden within history and folklore.
Together, their works navigate the space between the known and unknowable, opening new possibilities for connection across time, place, and perspective.
