Allison Katz: Jeu d’esprit at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is the Montreal-born painter’s first institutional solo exhibition in Québec. Recent and new oils—sometimes mixed with sand—are arranged in a layout Katz designed as a game of thematic connections, drawing on psychoanalysis, popular culture, and art history to probe identity, memory, and the psyche through Gradiva.
