Arjan Martins’ first U.S. solo exhibition presents new paintings and portraits on canvas and found wood. Drawing from archival photographs and collective memory, his works connect histories of the Black Atlantic, maritime travel, and the global movement of Black music. Figures appear within environments linking ocean, city, and performance spaces. Through layered paint and fragmented supports, Martins reopens historical images and reflects on diaspora, education, and cultural exchange.
