Stephen DiRado (b. 1957, Worcester, Massachusetts) is a photographer known for empathetic portraits, often devoting decades to a single theme. Self-taught from his teens, he studied at the School of the Worcester Art Museum and Massachusetts College of Art. His Bell Pond series of 1983 launched his documentary work, and since 1987 he has photographed Martha’s Vineyard. His fellowships include a John Simon Guggenheim award.
