Sol LeWitt (1928–2007), born in Hartford, Connecticut, was a pioneer of Conceptual art and Minimalism. He held that the idea is the work of art and that its making could be delegated, devising systems, often mathematical or architectural, as blueprints for wall drawings, modular structures and sculpture. His concrete-block towers engage modular production and public space.
