Therrien (1947–2019), born in Chicago, relocated to Los Angeles in the 1970s, where he earned an MFA from the University of Southern California. Developing an idiosyncratic sculptural vernacular, he explored the transformative potential of ordinary objects, allowing forms to expand, contract, and morph across materials and scales, animated by a sensibility that was at once playful, poetic, and rigorous.
