Paul Cézanne (1839–1906), born in Aix-en-Provence, France, was a Post-Impressionist painter whose structured still lifes, portraits and landscapes, including many views of Mont Sainte-Victoire, rebuilt form through planes of color. His approach laid important groundwork for Cubism and much of 20th-century painting.
