Marilyn Minter (b. 1948) is an American artist celebrated for her provocative paintings, photographs, and videos that explore beauty, glamour, and the body through a feminist lens. Based in New York, Minter rose to prominence in the 1990s with hyper-realistic works that blur the line between seduction and critique. Using layered techniques, she captures subjects in states of indulgence—glossy lips, jeweled eyes, and feet in stilettos—challenging conventions of desire, gender, and consumer culture. Her work has been exhibited at MoMA, the Whitney, and the Brooklyn Museum, and was included in the 2006 Whitney Biennial. Minter remains a bold voice in contemporary art, interrogating the politics of representation and the allure of the image.
