Feet squelching on wet grass, nourished by uncertainty
Firelei Báez (b. 1981, Dominican Republic) is a New York based artist whose paintings, works on paper, and sculptures explore overlooked histories, identity, migration, and power. Blending portraiture, landscape, and decorative forms, she reimagines historical narratives through a Caribbean lens. Her work has been exhibited at Tate Modern, the New Museum, Pérez Art Museum Miami, and the Venice and Berlin Biennales, and is held in major museum collections worldwide.
