Asher Liftin’s paintings and drawings investigate the conditions of vision through a tension between mechanical image processing and handmade mark-making. Using his own photographs as source material, Liftin decomposes images into cyan, yellow, magenta, and black, translating them through grids of acrylic ink and meticulously applied dots. Drawing on traditions of pointillism and divisionism, his works oscillate between photographic clarity and material fragmentation. Viewed at a distance, images resolve with near-photographic precision; up close, they dissolve into networks of colored marks, revealing the physical processes through which perception constructs recognizable images.
