Offerings is the first NFT collection by renowned artist Shirin Neshat. Inspired by some of her earliest and most iconic photographs, the works in this series exist in the liminal space between still and moving images, seamlessly merging video, hand-drawn calligraphy, and computer animation.
A pair of hands slowly opens, revealing a fragment of Iranian poetry written on the palms. As the hands begin to close, the words slowly fall apart and drift down the arms, wiping the slate clean before the movement repeats—a continuous cycle of revealing and letting go. “In this simple, poetic, yet subversive gesture,” explains Neshat, “is the notion of one’s desire to speak—to express oneself, even if discreetly.”
The series contains ten different texts, each selected by the artist and offered to the viewer as a kind of mantra, a brief statement that may be repeated over and over to focus the mind. With multiples of each offering available, these mantras may be practiced collectively as well as individually. They may also be offered to others in a gesture of exchange.
There are 10 artworks, each featuring a different text selected by the artist, available in editions of 100.
