This exhibition examines Isamu Noguchi’s long and evolving relationship with New York City, considering how the city’s material, cultural, and political conditions shaped his work. Focusing on artworks and unrealized projects, it addresses Noguchi’s efforts to create public spaces for community and play, as well as the challenges he faced in realizing them. The exhibition also reflects on the museum itself as part of his legacy in the city.
