Artist Walid Raad presents a series of (occasionally, but rarely) lovingly crafted birthday cakes for some of the world's most toxic and/or bigger-than-life leaders.

Each cake led to the creation of a number of slices. The number corresponds to the abhorred and/or revered leader's age as of 2022.

The slices are individuated by the historical or mythological poisons or elixirs they are said to contain. The poisons include Anthrax, Ergot, Mercury, and Ricin, among others. The elixirs include Rapamycin, Heavy Water, and Golden Apple, among others.Gift a "poisoned" slice to someone you love or hate. Gift an "elixired" slice to someone you cherish or scorn. Long life and early death: For some a blessing. For others, a curse.

The Orders Apprentice Variations

Marco Brambilla is a London-based artist known for his elaborate re-contextualizations of popular and found imagery, as well as pioneering digital imaging technologies in video installation and art. Brambilla’s work has been internationally exhibited and is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, Guggenheim Museum (New York); San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; ARCO Foundation (Madrid); and the Corcoran Gallery of Art (Washington D.C). Brambilla is a recipient of the Tiffany Comfort Foundation and Tiffany Colbert Foundation awards. His work has been featured at the Venice Film Festival and Sundance Film Festivals, as well as Fondation Beyeler in Basel, Switzerland.

Mirroring the Masonic degrees, whose ranks are as much heralded as they are critiqued, The Orders, present artworks that evolve in both complexity and rarity, and signify three different Masonic points of transformation – the individual, the collective, and lastly, time, death, and the order of all things.

The Orders transpires in the realm of web3 where the good, bad, and ugly of secrecy, image making and community are put into a dynamic and sudden set of entanglements.
